. firefighters are still on the scene of a duplex fire which started nearly 6 hours ago. >> cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is there and anne, we understand this was a pretty complicated fire for the crews to fight. right? >> reporter: it was challenging because the homes are so close together here on bienvenue avenue in berkeley. they did just reopen the avenue so that's some good news but firefighters still on scene watching for any flare-ups this morning. the fire started just after midnight and check out these pictures posted online overnight on the daily cal website showing how intense that fire became. five people were living in a duplex. they all got out safely including a woman in a wheelchair who had to be helped out by police. four homes surrounding this one were also evacuated as a precaution. those people have been allowed back in except for the family of five that is homeless this morning. firefighters in the meantime are evaluating the damage. >> during the firefight, there was a collapse of the roof and second floor which resulted in us backing out of the building and fighting the fi

. an exclusive cbs 5 surveyusa poll of adults in california shows that 48% believe romney won compared with 34% for president obama. 18% felt there was no clear winner. last night's forum in colorado focused mainly on the economy and other domestic issues. that debate took place at the university of denver, colorado being a big swing state in this election, as well. the focus of the debate was the economy. but big bird somehow got into the dialogue there. and, of course, as we mentioned, there were some polls that showed that romney came out ahead of the president on that first debate. bigad shaban joins us live from denver with some highlights from last night. :00. firefighters are still on the scene of a duplex fire in berkeley which started nearly five hours ago. >> cbs 5 reporter anne makovec has been following this developing story. this is a complicated fire for the crews to fight. >> reporter: yes. and one of the large problems that they had to deal with overnight is that there are other homes so close by as you can see here. ben venue avenue is still closed down and will be for several hours after this fire in a duplex. five people lived in that building all of them were able to get out safely. but you can see how spectacular the fire was from some of these pictures we found on the website for the daily cal. the fire broke out just after midnight. of the five people that were in the home, one woman was in a wheelchair. she had to be helped out by police. but again, no injuries to report. homes around the building had to be evacuated because firefighters were afraid that this was going to spread. those people have since been allowed back in after part of the home that was initially the source of this fire collapsed. >> so during the firefight there

and the highway patrol is preparing for traffic gridlock especially here in san francisco. cbs 5 traffic reporter elizabeth wenger joins us from san francisco to explain what areas to avoid. i guess everything. it is so busy. >> reporter: it is. that's the funny thing. the waterfront and the embarcadero, marina green, that's where a lot of stuff is going on. but yeah, there are so many events it's spread out throughout the city, north beach, castro district, unfortunately there's no great area traffic-wise this weekend. so this is going to be one of the busier spots. we are here along pier 30-32. it's dark but we have a big navy vessel you can tour for fleet week and in addition, if that wasn't enough, we have the america's cup sailing yachts behind me here, as well. so if yesterday was any indication, it's going to be very busy and loud this saturday and sunday. the blue angels practiced yesterday. don't drive. parking even if you get here will be extra difficult. to avoid gridlock, avoid the waterfront, use less popular bridges like the san mateo bridge. if fleet week and america's cup weren't
